My Health Journey

Welcome!  Built on the cornerstone of my transformative personal journey, this blog will serve as a roadmap for navigating the often intimidating terrains of improving our health as well as our personal finances.  Through a mix of experience-based wisdom, ongoing learning, and real-world insights, I’ll equip my readers with quick nuggets on sculpting a life of wellness and financial freedom. Whether it’s breaking down nutritional facts, providing tips and hacks, to demystifying money making strategies, this blog is the go-to hub for quick hits of relatable and actionable advice.  It’s all about empowering people to be the best versions of themselves, one healthy and financially savvy step at a time.

My personal weight management struggles date all the way back to my late teens when I began balancing dinners between my house and my boyfriend’s (I was, in essence, eating at 2 households.   If I didn’t like what my mom was cooking for dinner, I’ll eat there instead, and sometimes even both). 😟 Those were the days though, right?! You’d gain a few pounds but then shed them off quickly with some exercise and dieting, no biggie.  Well, unfortunately, those early years set the tone for the difficulties I’ve faced the majority of my adult years.

Fast forward, and what I know too well, as we age, our bodies start playing by an Entirely Different set of rules. 😟  I always thought I knew what I needed to do to lose weight but let’s face it, the “low-fat” era did us NO favors.  And to make matters worse, one of my biggest misconceptions was that I just needed to start working out to lose the weight but that does nothing if you don’t change your diet.   75-80% is what we’re putting in our mouths and I struggled BIG TIME eating how I was suppose to for any length of time and things got progressively worse as the years flew by.  I eventually found myself approaching 300lbs with MAJOR lean muscle loss!!! with NO energy, feeling like crap, embarrassed out in public, having difficulty moving and doing normal everyday activities.  I was at a crossroads where if I didn’t change course soon, I would be facing a very dire (and probably shortened) future but no matter what I did, I just couldn’t change course.

The power of a wake-up call…  seriously, it’s amazing how life has a way of jolting us awake just when we need it and that “moment of truth” hit me like a ton of bricks.  For someone who had been healthy all their life, with the exception of the extra weight, failing a physical due to sugar in my urine and a dangerously high blood pressure got my attention.  I’ll never forget that feeling.  That 371 on the glucose monitor with full-blown Type 2 Diabetes was my warning sign that sealed the deal.  The shock and fear for where things were headed FINALLY drove me to wholeheartedly roll up my sleeves and delve into learning the science of getting healthy. 

Long story short, my A1C plummeted from 11.4 to an incredible 5.1.  As of this writing, I’m down 82 lbs (and counting) and I feel and look like a brand new person.  I’m more than a survivor; I’m a conqueror WOOOHOOOO!!!!  AND I’m just getting started!  I’m sharing my story as a lesson in never giving up.  My journey proves that it’s never too late to rewrite our stories.

Through this journey, I’m learning that an unhealthy body will not release weight long-term.  I’m learning that this is the missing link of all the weight and diet programs out there, and why none of them work long-term. And the more we try to force the body to get the weight off through calorie restriction, fad diets, eliminating food groups and counting points, the more unhealthy, stressed and toxic the body becomes and the harder it will be to release the weight. This is why it feels like a constant battle to get the weight off and keep it off. And why with every year that passed, it became so much more difficult for me to get the weight off, or stop it from coming on.

I also learned that just like how our skin cells can heal a papercut in a couple days, every cell in our body has that same healing ability.  And once the body is healthy, it can turn the metabolism back on, and tap back into the inflammatory fat at a quick pace.  And it can do this regardless of age or gender.  All we need to do is send it the right signals.  And this can be done with a healthy, sustainable, lifestyle change.  When done right, not only can the weight come off, but the body will look healthy and have a natural glow, not the haggard, worn-out look.

While searching for “tools” to assist me in this, I stumbled upon a company that delivered a system with top-notch nutrition right to my cells, that is natural, clean and proven with 3rd party peer reviewed clinical evidence to back it up.   Still, I’m not one to stick to ANYTHING long term if it doesn’t taste great, and isn’t simple and flexible but this system checked ALL the boxes so was a Major win for me. Within just a couple days of getting the products into my body, I could literally feel the difference. Unlike other “diets” that may work short term, this wasn’t about slashing carbs or counting calories.  Instead, I was fueling my body with the high-quality nutrition it craves so I was able to finally start to release the excess weight naturally.

As I stand today, healthier, lighter, and with a rejuvenated spirit, I realize this journey is far from over – it’s only just begun.
