From Rock Bottom to Renewed: How I Took Control of My Health and Transformed My Life
My weight challenges actually began as far back as my late teens, but back then, they were minor and didn’t negatively impact my health or daily life. In fact, I was very healthy throughout most of my adult years.
But as I got older, things began to shift. The small struggles I thought I had managed started spiraling, and by the time I hit my late 40s, my health wasn’t just slipping—it was in serious jeopardy. My energy was dwindling, my confidence shaken, and, my weight eventually ballooned out of control.
Then came the diagnosis: Type 2 Diabetes. I’ll never forget the shock of that realization. I had always been a healthy person, so how did I end up here? And when a routine pre-employment physical revealed dangerously high blood sugar levels, I knew something had to change—immediately. That moment became my wake-up call, the spark that finally pushed me to take back my health.
I started different this time though – I had a clear goal: to lose fat, not lean muscle, and finally break free from the cycle of yo-yo dieting that had defined my adult life. Over the years, the constant losing and gaining back had taken a toll—not just on my body, but on my lean muscle, which I’d lost far too much of in the process. Especially as we age, preserving our lean muscle is even more difficult and absolutely critical to our healthspan so I couldn’t afford to waste any time, I had to do it the right way and no more starving myself and quick fixes.
Instead, I focused on truly understanding my body and what it needed to thrive. I embraced metabolic health, educated myself, and shifted my approach to one built on nourishing my body—not depriving it. I followed simple, sustainable habits that helped me lose the fat while maintaining and building lean muscle. Most importantly, I found a plan that was flexible and easy to fit into my life, making it something I could stick with for the long term.
The results? Life-changing.
I lowered my A1C from 11.4 to 5.2, lost 82 pounds, and, more importantly, gained back my energy, my confidence, and my zest for life. I didn’t just lose weight—I reclaimed my health, my freedom, and my future.
