Lifespan refers to the number of years we live; how long we live, whereas healthspan is about the quality of those years; how well we live. In other words, healthspan measures how many of those years we remain healthy and free from disease.
This means the average American spends 12 years of their life unhealthy or living with disease.
The good news is, we have the power to reverse our biological age! Research shows that 85% of chronic diseases are linked to lack of exercise, poor nutrition, and lifestyle factors.
Here are some ways to INCREASE our healthspan:
✅ Increase Your Protein Intake – While animal protein, poultry, fish, and seafood are excellent sources, one of the best sources of protein is Undenatured Whey. It’s among the highest quality proteins available, which is why I replace 1-2 meals a day with an undenatured whey protein shake.
✅ Maintain Lean Muscle Mass – As we age, we naturally lose lean muscle, which is linked to increased mortality and aging. Undenatured Whey protein shakes help create and maintain lean muscle, offering anti-aging benefits.
✅ Activate Autophagy: Your Cells’ Internal Cleansing Process – Autophagy helps clean up and recycle parts of your cells, turning them into basic building blocks like amino acids for cell maintenance and growth. I practice this by fasting one day every week or two days every other week.
✅ Defy Aging at the Cellular Level with NAD – NAD not only helps convert food into energy but also plays a crucial role in maintaining DNA integrity, protecting our bodies from aging and disease. It’s all backed by science.
✅ Ensure Regular Mineral Intake – Our bodies need around 60 minerals for optimal health. Even with a clean and organic diet, we typically get only 10-12 minerals. Therefore, supplements are essential for most of us.
✅ Control Blood Sugar Levels – People aged 65 and older with high blood sugar levels are at a sevenfold greater risk of developing dementia.
✅ Stay Active – An active lifestyle is crucial as we age to ward off illnesses and maintain heart and body functions. Movement and strength training are essential.
✅ Keep a Positive Outlook – Motivation and mood can diminish as we get older, often due to high insulin and blood sugar levels, low vitamin D, and lack of exercise. Staying positive is key!
✅ Get Your Daily Dose of Antioxidants – Moringa is my go-to for antioxidants. Known as the healthiest plant on earth, it’s rich in polyphenols, which have potent antioxidant properties. It also contains flavonoids, phenolics, and carotenoids.
Be proactive with your health today, and your future self will thank you!
